COREvolution Executive Director Tim Kohut was in his element when he talked shop with famed environmentalist and author Bill McKibben – each playing off the other’s work in the hope of someday saving the world.
Kohut met McKibben at a meet-and-greet in Santa Monica on Sept. 18, where McKibbin was touting his new book, “Here Comes the Sun: A Last Chance for the Climate and a Fresh Chance for Civilization.”
Inspired by McKibben’s writings, Kohut has guided National CORE in completing more than 50 solar panel system installations since 2018, with 32 more planned. Over the last three years, National CORE has also completed eight comprehensive fuel-switching projects, replacing gas-driven water heaters and/or HVAC systems with high-efficiency, all-electric systems.
National CORE, a six-time LEED for Homes Power Builder, has earned 29 environmental certifications for its communities – nine platinum, 19 gold and one silver. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, a certification program designed by the U.S. Green Building Council to promote energy-efficient home building. Kohut also shared plans for Rose Creek Village in San Diego, which will be National CORE’s first solar façade building, advancing energy efficiency and supporting California’s decarbonization goals.
McKibben was impressed with National CORE’s long history of sustainability and Kohut’s dedication to an environmentally friendly future.
